Certification
Every Stone Ships With Its Own Independent Lab Report
We don't issue our own certificates, and we don't sell stones "certified in-house." Every emerald above 0.5 carats is graded by a third-party gemological laboratory before it ships — a lab with no financial interest in whether you buy the stone.
GIA
Gemological Institute of America
The most widely recognized independent lab globally. We use GIA primarily for higher-value Colombian and collector-grade stones.
IGI
International Gemological Institute
Fast, reliable, and well-regarded for commercial and mid-market natural emeralds across our Zambian and Panjshir sourcing.
GRS
GemResearch Swisslab
Specialist in origin determination — particularly valuable for buyers who want documented confirmation of Colombian, Zambian, or Panjshir origin.
What's On The Report
Reading an Emerald Certificate
- Identification — confirms the stone is natural beryl (emerald), ruling out synthetic or simulant material.
- Measurements & weight — exact millimetre dimensions and carat weight of your specific stone.
- Treatment — whether the stone shows minor, moderate, or no clarity enhancement (oiling/resin), per standard trade disclosure practice.
- Origin (where tested) — geological origin opinion, when the buyer has requested origin determination, typically for Colombian-origin claims.
- Report number — a unique identifier you can independently verify on the lab's website.
Want the full breakdown, including how to spot a mismatched or altered certificate? Read our Certification Guide.
Verify a Report
- Find the report number printed on your certificate.
- Visit the issuing lab's official report-check tool (GIA Report Check, IGI Verify Report, or scan the GRS QR code).
- Confirm the weight, dimensions, and treatment shown online match the physical document you received.
If anything doesn't match, contact us immediately at support@emeraldvault.in — this takes priority over every other type of enquiry.
Certification Questions Before You Buy?
Ask us which lab we'd recommend for your specific stone and budget — the right choice depends on value and whether origin documentation matters to you.
