Should I be concerned that my tanzanite is heat-treated?
No — heat treatment is standard, expected, and near-universal for tanzanite, converting the naturally brownish rough into its familiar blue-violet color. It's not a red flag the way undisclosed treatment would be in other gemstones.
How durable is tanzanite for everyday ring wear?
It's softer and more brittle than sapphire or ruby, so a protective setting like a bezel and avoiding ultrasonic cleaners is recommended, especially for a ring worn daily.
Why does tanzanite price jump so much above 3-5 carats?
Large, clean, well-saturated stones are disproportionately rare because tanzanite comes from a single limited deposit, so price per carat rises steeply once you're past the 3-5 carat range.
What should a tanzanite certificate state about treatment?
It should confirm heat treatment, which is present in the vast majority of tanzanite on the market and is a routine, accepted disclosure rather than a concern.
Does 'Block D' tanzanite mean it's literally from that mining block?
Not always — "D-block quality" is often used as trade shorthand for top color saturation, since Block D historically produced some of the finest material, even when describing a stone from elsewhere in the same deposit.
