Sri Lanka (Ceylon) Sapphire
Sri Lanka has produced fine blue sapphire for over 2,000 years and remains the most important commercial source of quality material today.
Ceylon sapphires typically show a lighter, brighter blue than Kashmir or Burmese material and are prized for exceptional clarity and brilliance. The country's Ratnapura ("City of Gems") region remains the trade's most active hub for both mining and cutting, supplying the large majority of fine untreated and lightly-heated blue sapphire available to buyers today.
