Certified Natural Ruby (Manik): What to Verify
The single most important line on a ruby certificate is treatment — heated, unheated, or glass-filled (a lower-value composite treatment sometimes mistaken for a natural stone with minor enhancement). A reputable independent lab report will state this explicitly, not as a footnote. Origin determination (Burma, Mozambique, etc.) is a specialized additional service some labs offer for extra cost — treat any origin claim on a basic report with caution and ask whether it's been independently verified, since Burma-origin claims specifically command a real price premium and are worth double-checking.
Our authenticity standard for Ruby
Whenever a certificate is available, it's shared with you before you pay — the same commitment described in full on our site-wide Authenticity & Certification page. Because our dealer network sources through multiple independent gemological laboratories, the specific issuing lab may vary by stone; what stays constant is that the report is independent, not a seller's own letterhead.
Once you have a report number, most independent laboratories offer free online verification — compare the certificate in your hands against what the lab's own database shows before finalizing any purchase.

Common Ruby Certification Questions
Does every ruby need an origin report, or just a standard certificate?
A standard independent certificate confirming natural origin and treatment is sufficient for most buyers. A separate origin-determination report is only worth the extra cost if you specifically need Burma (or another origin) verified — for example, for insurance, resale, or a specific astrological requirement.
What does "glass-filled" mean on a ruby report?
It means significant fractures in the stone have been filled with a lead-glass compound to improve apparent clarity — a much more invasive treatment than simple heating, and one that should be priced and disclosed very differently from a standard heated ruby.
